PHOENIX -- One person was injured in an early morning fire at Phoenix Motel 6. It happened shortly after 6:30 a.m. in the area of Interstate 17 and Northern Avenue. Details were not immediately available, but aerial video from the scene showed paramedics working on a patient, reportedly a 27-year-old man. While that was going on outside, firefighters were looking into rooms on the first and second floors of the motel. It's not known what sparked the fire or how many rooms were affected. Information will be

SUN CITY WEST, Ariz. -- A coyote pup is on the mend after suffering an unpleasant encounter with a cholla cactus this week. Sun City West resident Gwen Maxwell said she went for a walk Tuesday morning when she saw what she thought was a small puppy across the street. Maxwell said the animal crawled under some bushes, and eventually disappeared. A little while later, Maxwell walked around the side of her home and saw the coyote pup in her backyard covered in cholla cactus. After speaking with a neighbor abou

GILBERT, Ariz. -- The Higley Unified School District athletic director was found dead Wednesday morning from what Gilbert police believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound. An employee found Art Wagner, 42, just off the Higley High School campus near Pecos and Recker roads between the baseball field and railroad tracks at approximately 8:45 a.m. The incident was reported to police as a suicide, however, it is still under investigation, according to Sgt. PHOENIX -- The NBA recently asked its all-time leading scorer to work with Phoenix Mercury rookie Brittney Griner. And why not? No player in history is better suited to prepare Griner for life on and off the court than the player she's most often compared to, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Check out the video above to see what Kareem and Brittney had to say about working together.

PHOENIX -- Temperatures already started to cool down on Wednesday with a high of 101 in Phoenix. The past couple of days we've topped out at 103 degrees. For the next several days, we anticipate highs will drop into the 90s. In fact, on Friday many Valley locations will see highs only in the low 90s. That's not bad for this time of year. The cool air is being ushered into the state by northwesterly winds in the upper atmosphere. And with a trough of low pressure due in for the weekend, that's when we'll se

PHOENIX -- A Valley woman is concerned by an argument she witnessed on the light rail, and would like to see more security added. Brianne Geiger was riding home on Tuesday when two men began yelling at each other. She was trapped in the middle, and couldn't get to the emergency button. To make maters worse, she was between stops, and is pregnant. "It just kept escalating. They were cursing, swearing," said Geiger. The men never actually got into a physical altercation, but nevertheless, it was still d

PHOENIX -- Thanks to a second anonymous donation, Phoenix police will be able to hold a gun buyback event for a third straight weekend. Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton announced this week that another $100,000 has been donated to fund the purchase of grocery gift cards. "Recently, I received a phone call from an individual who was motivated by the success of the Phoenix gun buyback program," said Mayor Stanton. "He believed in what we were trying to accomplish, believed in the Phoenix Police Department, and fran
