FOLLY BEACH, N.C. -- NBC Charlotte continues our Beaches on the Cheap series with a vacation plan for Folly Beach. The goal is to spend no more than $150 on accommodations, three meals and a unique activity for two people. With Charleston, voted by Conde Nast as the best travel destination in the country two years in a row, and Folly Beach, recently making the finals for the All-American City award, it can be tough finding accommodations for less than $100 a night. On Folly, there's one hotel -- The Tides

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Fairy tales do come true, at least for one Charlotte elementary school teacher. Her boyfriend used her love of children's books as a novel way to propose marriage. Torrieann Dooley is used to reading children's books, she teaches second grade at David Cox Elementary School. But this book is her own love story, which started about a year and half ago when she met now fiancee Richard Kennedy. He was bartending, she came in and he bought her a piece of cake. CHARLOTTE, NC -- During a city council budget adjustments meeting Wednesday, Councilman James Mitchell suggested adding paid interns to the FY2014 and FY2015 operating budget. Mitchell said the cost to the city would range from $82,000 to $182,000, depending on whether the interns would be paid minimum wage or $10 per hour. Mitchell and several other members suggested that interns would be helpful in dealing with constituent services, and would also relieve the workload on current city staffers. A majorit

FORT MILL, S.C. -- Construction materials blocking roads and causing safety concerns has Fort Mill residents upset and demanding action. A homeowner took a picture of wood roofing trusses blocking a cul-de-sac on Bannerman Lane in the Springfield neighborhood. He says construction materials in the cul-de-sac twice this month forced a school bus to back up into the woods so it could get out. Neighbors also say construction vehicles on both sides of the road plus materials in the road could cause problems if

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Some domestic violence victims live in a constant state of fear, not knowing when their tormentor will show up and abuse them again. "There is no reason to put your hands on a woman, bottom line, step away from it," said George Stevens of Charlotte. He was at Freedom Park Wednesday afternoon with his Wife and newborn son. The North Carolina Legislature may give victims a high tech way of keeping track of their abusers. House Bill 477, better known as Allison's Law, would give judges or ma
